Corcovado National Park Information

Dear Visitor, this important information helps you in your stay in the stations.

Following information show the services that The Corcovado National park gives you in each station:

Services and Ranger Stations in detail


La Leona Ranger Station:

  • Camping area: it is necessary to have your own tent camp (there are not for rent and borrow).
  • Food Service: this service has any restrictions, it is possible only there is availability in the station and there are not reservations. If you want to cook your own food, you need to carry gas stove and utilities (bowls, knife, spoons, others). The park does not borrow anything.
  • Drinking water, toilets and bathrooms: it is necessary to have your own towel and hygienic utilities (toilet paper, soap, shampoo, tooth paste, others). In the station is not possible to buy nothing.

Sirena Ranger Station:

  • Camping area: it is necessary to have your own tent (in the station there is a wood platform that has 15 people available. You can not reserve the space in the platform). There are not for rent and borrow.
  • Lodges-Dormitories: In the lodge is necessary to have your own sheets or blankets, mosquito net and others because the room has two bunk beds with mattress. Also It is very important to know that the lodges are inside the ranger station build and this is a wilderness area with rustic amenities. Then it is very important to know that is not HOTEL with amenities includes.
  • Food Service: This service is offered by the Sirena’s park rangers and it is very important to respect the food service schedule. Also to know that is not a RESTAURANT, to get food is possible if you reserve and PRE PAID before to go to the park; if not the park rangers can not give the service. If you want to cook your own food, you need to carry gas stove and utilities (bowls, knife, spoons, others). The park does not borrow anything.

    Food Service Schedule:

    • Breakfast: 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.
    • Lunch: 11:30 am. to 12:00 p.m.
    • Dinner: 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Trails: The station has any trails around. Also when walking on the trails stick to the middle to avoid degradation of the forest and confusion of trail direction
  • Drinking water, toilets and bathrooms: it is necessary to have your own towel and hygienic utilities (toilet paper, soap, shampoo, tooth paste, others). In the station is not possible to buy nothing. The bathrooms and toilets are shared.

Los Patos ranger station:

  • Camping area: it is necessary to have your own tent camp (there are not for rent and borrow).
  • Food Service: You should to cook your own food, you need to carry gas stove and utilities (bowls, knife, spoons, others). The park does not borrow anything.
  • Drinking water, toilets and bathrooms: it is necessary to have your own towel and hygienic utilities (toilet paper, soap, shampoo, tooth paste, others). In the station is not possible to buy nothing. The bathrooms and toilets are shared.

San Pedrillo ranger station:

  • Camping area: it is necessary to have your own tent camp (there are not for rent and borrow).
  • Food Service: You should to cook your own food, you need to carry gas stove and utilities (bowls, knife, spoons, others). The park does not borrow anything.
  • Drinking water, toilets and bathrooms: it is necessary to have your own towel and hygienic utilities (toilet paper, soap, shampoo, tooth paste, others). In the station is not possible to buy nothing. The bathrooms and toilets are shared.

Isla del caño (Caño’s Island) ranger station:

  • Snorkeling: it is necessary to know to swim and to carry your own snorkeling equipment (fins, mask, snorkel and life jacket or life belt); this activity you can do it in the marked area.
  • Diving: it is necessary to have diving license and to carry your own equipment and expert guide. This activity is only possible in the marked area, but you need to go to park office at island and register. They will tell you the authorized place to do the diving.
  • Trails: The Island has any trails around. Also when walking on the trails stick to the middle to avoid degradation of the forest and confusion of trail direction
  • Rest zones: There are any tables, is possible to enjoy your food (you need to carry your own food).
  • Drinking water, toilets and bathrooms: it is necessary to have your own towel and hygienic utilities (toilet paper, soap, shampoo, tooth paste, others). In the station is not possible to buy nothing. The bathrooms and toilets are shared.

Important utilities to bring

  • Flashlight/headlamp: All stations have a few electricity. In the stations shut down the current early. It is very recommendable to carry your own light.
  • Towels and hygienic utilities: You should to carry your towel and hygienic utilities: soap, shampoo, toilet paper, other. In the station is not possible to buy nothing and they do not give these facilities.
  • Bed clothes: If you got room at Sirena station, it is very necessary to have your own sheets or blankets. The room has two bunk beds with mattress.
  • Mosquito net: it is very important to have mosquito net, because in the stations at nights there are a lot of insects and it will protect you.

    Security recommendations

To enjoy the stay in to the park is very important that to know and to do these security recommendations.

It is important remember that you are visiting a Protected Area and you should to conserve the environment, because there are a lot animals and plants those are necessaries to have in Corcovado and our country that finally helps the world. The park rangers had made trails; please walk on the trails, because if you walk outside of the trails you are destroying the habitats and these are serious problems in the environment, but we know that you will help us.

The animals in the area are totally wild and it is recommendable for your security and it animal have a prudent distance, you can look a moment and leave it, it can do changes in the nature or animal attack.

The trash or garbage of each visitor should to carry when leave the park. Please DO NOT THROUGHT OUT ON THE TRAILS, because in the stations there are not trash can.

Rules:

  • For security is recommendable to walk minimum in pairs or more with someone that knows the way.
  • Please bring comfortable clothes (not jeans). Wear softly clothes and easy dry.
  • Inside the trails is recommendable to walk with hiking shoes or rubber boots
  • Please walk only on the trails.
  • Do not touch trees and plants. Some ones have poison.
  • Please look on the trail when you are walking, because in dry trees and plants could be possible to find poison snakes, spiders, scorpions, ants, others. Please take care.
  • Use repellent, suns cream, sunglasses.
  • Do not swim in forbidden places
  • Do not touch the animals.
  • Do not give food or meals to the animals.
  • Do not use drugs inside the park. It is forbidden.
  • The domestic animals (cats, dogs, others) are forbidden.
  • Forbidden to extract plants and animals of the national park.
